Journal of Confessional Bibliology — Scripture Alone, Preserved by Providence

Peter J.

Setting: British evangelical scholarship.

Peter J. Williams is a British biblical scholar and principal of Tyndale House, Cambridge. He served as associate editor of the Tyndale House Greek New Testament and on the ESV Translation Oversight Committee and writes widely on Gospel reliability, languages, manuscripts, and translation.

His evangelical apologetic conclusions should be distinguished from the authority method of the editions he helps produce. Agreement on reliability does not settle the identity of every disputed reading.

Bibliological positions

Early manuscript and linguistic evidence can support strong confidence in the Gospels, while the Greek text and modern translation are established by responsible critical and editorial work.

Qualifications and disputes

Williams is not the sole editor of THGNT or ESV, and committee outcomes are collective.

The relation between apologetic probability, critical reconstruction, and confessional preservation remains disputed.
