Klaus Wachtel is a German classical philologist and New Testament textual critic who worked at the Münster institute from 1990. He co-edited the Editio Critica Maior, helped develop and explain the CBGM, and published important studies of the Byzantine text.
His work complicates simple claims that modern criticism merely dismisses Byzantine evidence: Wachtel has argued for a more differentiated history while retaining the critical-edition framework.
