John Rogers worked with William Tyndale in Antwerp and edited the 1537 Matthew Bible under the name Thomas Matthew. That Bible combined Tyndale’s New Testament and Old Testament translations with remaining material chiefly from Coverdale, accompanied by notes and prefatory matter. Rogers later served in England and became the first Protestant burned under Mary I.
His record is vital for tracing how Tyndale’s work entered an authorized complete English Bible tradition. Editorial attribution must remain exact: the Matthew Bible is not simply a one-man translation.
