Journal of Confessional Bibliology — Scripture Alone, Preserved by Providence

James R.

Setting: American Reformed Baptist apologetics.

James R. White is an American Reformed Baptist apologist, debater, author, and director of Alpha and Omega Ministries. He has taught and debated textual criticism, Bible translation, the King James Version, Roman Catholicism, Islam, and Reformed theology.

His Research Center page should link debates and site articles to exact claims, dates, and recordings. His self-description as Reformed or presuppositional must be evaluated separately from whether his textual method consistently applies those commitments.

Bibliological positions

The autographic text is recovered from the manuscript tradition through critical scholarship; no single manuscript or printed Textus Receptus edition is perfectly identical to the autographs, and modern translations based on the critical text are legitimate.

Qualifications and disputes

White is not an editor of Nestle-Aland or ECM. The classification concerns the textual authority he accepts, not every part of his doctrine of Scripture.

His definition of KJV-Onlyism, use of presuppositional apologetics in textual questions, and claims about variants and doctrine are disputed.
