Luke 23:45 — Was the Sun Darkened or Eclipsed? The Greek behind the Darkness

The received text says “the sun was darkened.” The critical text uses a participial form of ἐκλείπω, “the sun failing,” which can be translated “eclipsed” but need not describe an ordinary astronomical eclipse.
