Mark 6:3 — “Is Not This the Carpenter?” A Reading Once Thought Scandalous

The received and modern critical texts call Jesus “the carpenter.” Some witnesses change the phrase to “the carpenter’s son,” apparently aligning Mark with Matthew and avoiding a description once treated as demeaning.
