William Fulke was an English theologian, Cambridge college head, and prolific defender of the Protestant Bible against Roman Catholic controversialists. His works answer claims for the Vulgate, defend Protestant translations, and discuss many textual and interpretive questions in the course of close comparison.
Fulke is especially useful because his arguments show how late-sixteenth-century English Protestants handled variants, original languages, patristic citations, and translation objections before the Authorized Version. Each quotation should retain the objection and reply structure.
Bibliological positions
The Hebrew and Greek Scriptures are the authentic rule; translations possess authority as faithful renderings and remain corrigible by the originals. The church and fathers serve as witnesses, not masters, of the text.
